6/12/2023 0 Comments Cherub mission 1 the recruit![]() Most intelligent intelligence agencies would recruit military trained personal and send them through years of training. ![]() Finally, sending agents with only 100 days training on dangerous missions is stupid. James shows up out of shape and supposedly passes a super hard basic training program and when done can easily do 2-hour runs? He shouldn't have survived it. The kids also seemed way too young to be doing any intensive training like that. Why would M15 have done 2 years observation, and then submit a plan to an ethics committee, wait for approval on a time-dependant mission, send in a kid that had no background or cover identity in the area and then let him botch it up? The discovery Amy and James found at the convention center could have been made by anyone with a good security system and couple guards on patrol. Were you disappointed with the book: It seemed unrealistic as nothing those kids did would be allowed by a government and couldn't be done by existing intelligence agencies. Many of the characters were also good and well laid out. ![]() I also enjoyed the 100-day basic training. Compelling Aspect of the Book: The fact they were kids was interesting but it seemed like an Alex Rider rip-off. ![]()

Veronika ends up in the Villete, the infamous Slovenian mental asylum. The reasoning she leaves behind for others is that it was extremely saddening for her that an ignorant French journalist had begun an article with the rather disconcerting words: ‘Where is Slovenia?’ The reasoning she gives herself for this drastic act was life was the same for her every day lack of major emotional upheavals had become mundane for her. The narrative begins with Veronika, an attractive 24-year old Slovene musing on her life just after she swallows sleeping pills in an attempt to commit suicide. To put it bluntly, in the words of one of the characters, ‘And all of us, in one way or another, are mad.’ That, of course, puts Einstein, Columbus, even Edmund Hillary and the Beetles on the list of madmen. Madness is living in a separate world that you create yourself, a world others consider ‘different’. ![]() We all seem to have perverted ideas on what madness is, but Coelho’s book provides the simple answer: Madness is creating our own world and choosing to live in it, without concern about other things that do not matter. The fundamental question that Coelho puts forth is on what madness actually is. ![]() ![]() In Veronika decides to Die, the extremely masterful Paulo Coelho does what he is best at: forcing us to ponder upon things we all know, and making us see them in a whole new light. ![]() 6/11/2023 0 Comments The seventh seal film![]() ![]() ![]() From now on, I'll simply refer to him as The Knight.) The many single-toned rooms of the castle symbolize the human mind and show different types of personalities. In the story, Poe employed many traditional elements of Gothic fiction that also include the castle setting. The story “The Masque of the Red Death” has been directly influenced by The Castle of Otranto, a Gothic novel by Horace Walpole. This story has been eluded by many other literary works. Since then, the story has been adapted in many different forms, including a film in 1964. ![]() Initially, the story was published in Graham’s Magazine in May 1842. The readers attempt to find the true nature of the disease. Various interpretations of the story have been presented by critics and readers. These stories are often analyzed as an allegory that shows the inevitability of death. The short stories of Edgar Allan Poe are written in the tradition of Gothic fiction. I really think it’s the successful mix of likeable characters, likeable fantasy tropes, whilst also telling its own story. Not something I usually say about epic fantasy, but in the case of Of Blood and Fire, it’s true. ![]() This, however, turned out not to be required – I literally flew through this book. It’s chunky! It’s epic!! And I felt I needed a block of time to get through it. ![]() ![]() Of Blood and Fire has been high on my TBR list, but it took until December for me to read it. The first novel, Private, was great and so were the other 7 books, but after that everything went downhill. Going into the book, I had no idea what to expect. BOOO!!įirst of all, I'd like to say that the only reason this book gets 2 stars is because I liked the rest of the series. Whatever happened to Upton? Why is she with Josh? Where did she end up? What happened to her family? Where did the magic hocus pocus go? She ends up pondering outside the window, looking at the damned Billings building!! I agree with Noelle, Reed is a GLASS LICKER, weak character, paranoid, boring, one dimensional and she just doesn't have self respect, Come on, she used to wear their handy downs without even feeling a tiny bit of shame. In Ominous she discovered that the bIllings girls have magic then BOOM, what magic? LOL I just make it up as I go. Everyone is out to get poor Reed, she is wanted dead in ALL 14 books?! It gets boring after the second book. ![]() I feel that Kate milked the series and ended up ruining it. ![]() I should have stopped reading this series a LONG time ago but I like to finish what I started. ![]() It's a quick read, I finished it in two hours, I thought it'd tie all the loose ends but it didn't.
